The Geary County Sheriff’s has received numerous complaints from citizens regarding a person threatening to arrest citizens for failing to appear for jury duty. The caller will advise that the citizen has failed to appear for jury duty and they must withdraw $2,000 from a bank account or they will be arrested. This is a scam similar to one reported approximately one year ago. Unfortunately, these scams are typically generated by persons who are not from the local area and can be very difficult to trace. The Geary County Sheriff’s Office will never contact you to advise that you owe money for any reason. If someone contacts you, asking that you pay any amount of money to avoid judicial repercussions, do not comply. Any money that you pay to a person who is operating a scam will likely never be recovered.
