Major Barbara Smith was born and raised in Eagle Mills, New York. She moved to Junction City in 1997. She began her career with the Geary County Sheriff's Department in 2001 as a patrol deputy. During the next 12 years, she rose through the ranks and in February 2013, she was promoted to Major. Throughout her career, she has served as the Domestic Violence trainer and on the Domestic Violence Taskforce, striving to improve the safety of victims.
Major Smith resides on her small ranch in Geary County. She enjoys serving as the Geary County 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, secretary of the Junction City Saddle Club and web-master for the Easter Kansas Horseman's Assoc., as well as several other civic organizations. Her passion is showing and training her 6 year old Buckskin, Quarter horse, "Kate".
