Sheriff Jackson was born and raised in Junction City, Geary County and graduated from Chapman High School in 1979, and then joined the Navy in 1980. He spent the next 5 years serving as a Torpedoman on a submarine homeported out of Sasebo Japan. In 1985 Sheriff Jackson attended the Navy Security Police academy at Lakehurst, NJ. This was followed by orders to Naval Training Center Corry Station, in Pensacola Fl., to be the watch commander for a 5 person shift of Navy Policemen, responsible for all patrol policing functions on base. In 1987 Sheriff Jackson was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned home to Junction City to pursue a career in Law enforcement.

From 1988 to 1993 Sheriff Jackson worked as a patrolman and a Narcotics detective for the Junction City Police dept. In 1993 Sheriff Jackson went to work as a Narcotics detective for the I135/I70 Drug Task Force. In 1995 Sheriff Jackson joined the Marine Corps. He spent the next several years in junior leadership billets at different units in the Marines. In 2001 Jackson was promoted to Staff Sergeant E-6, and received orders to be the Fire Chief for a 22 man unit of fire supporters, attached to the 2nd Bn 2nd Marines. This unit deployed with the 22nd MEU and executed peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and several other locations in Africa. Following these operations the unit then participated in the invasion of Iraq. Sheriff Jackson spent the next several years deploying on two more combat deployments to Ramadi Iraq, and one combat deployment to Afghanistan. He then did a tour of duty at the Pentagon. Following the Pentagon tour Sheriff Jackson attended the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy class 60. His next two tours were combat deployments to the Helmand province, Afghanistan. After returning stateside from his last deployment, Sheriff Jackson was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9), then retired from the Marine Corps in June of 2012 with 25 years of service.

Sheriff Jackson returned home to Junction City and continued his service in law enforcement and was hired as a Lt. with the Grandview Police Dept. After a few months there a position came available at the Geary County Sheriff’s department and he started his career there as a deputy. After about a year as a deputy he was promoted to Lieutenant. As a Lt.,  he was a watch commander for a 5 person nightshift of deputies. Sheriff Jackson also served as a member of the swat team, and a sniper for the swat team for the next 4 yrs.

In May of 2019 Sheriff Jackson was appointed by the Governor to the position of Sheriff of Geary County, Kansas.
